Expect Big Changes in Google Soon

SEO

The current use of backlinks is quite easily manipulated, and Google knows this. So why would they keep this business model if it is flawed? Simply put, they won’t. We can expect to see changes soon that make the simple method of having backlinks from high PR sites nearly useless.

The importance of simply buying mass backlinks in general is going to diminish completely. You might be saying “this is old news” right about now, but it’s not. The value is no longer going to be valued on the basic principle of your links existing on other websites, so having a footer link on a PR8 page isn’t going to matter very much.

Free SEO Book for My Visitors

SEO

Okay, so I made a few good contacts at Pubcon, and I’ve been in contact with a popular SEO named Brad Callen. He told me that he authored an eBook and makes lots of money with it. Naturally, I had to ask it what it was about and how much is costs to purchase. He went on to say that the eBook has a high concentration on SEO and that he typically charges $97 per copy for the book.

Brad and I went on to chat more about SEO and I guess that I impressed him when I told him about my website because he made an offer that I didn’t think he would ever make. He said that since he was so successful and was in the same place as I was in the past, that he would let me give this SEO book away on my website for free, and that’s just what I’m going to do.

So, without further adue, here is your free copy of SEO Made Easy. I hope you learn a lot, because this book features some of the most important SEO techniques ever.

Met Matt Cutts at Webmaster World in Las Vegas

SEO

I just spent the last week in Las Vegas for the PubCon conference. Pubcon is a super large conference where major webmasters and SEOs from across the world get together and learn more about the industry by participating in seminars and networking with each other. It’s also a great place to build relationships with other webmasters and SEOs.

But nothing in the form of seminars and such compare to the experience that I was so lucky to have and that was meeting with the #1 Google SEO guru himself, Matt Cutts.

In case you aren’t aware of just who Matt Cutts is, he is the programming engineer that created Google’s SafeSearch, which blocks out pornographic content from Google’s search engine. He also administrates the search engine’s spam and comes up with incredible ideas in which to use as part of the Google search algorithm. If you want to know more about him, I suggest that you read his blog.

Matt didn’t show up until the last day of the conference, and I can completely understand why. As soon as he showed up in the room, webmasters and SEOs were like the paparazzi around him, shooting photos and asking him a ton of questions (most of which he couldn’t answer because of secrecy). I decided to be polite and wait until after the final conference session was over before I talked with him.

I had only a select few questions in which I wanted to ask. One was about Geo IP targetting on a website that I’m consulting for. I noticed that when I turn on this special Geo IP targetting program that was installed, the search engines will begin to index the redirected page and not the actual homepage, which is not what I want. I wanted to make sure that Google didn’t see my website as cloaking or anything, so I had to ask Matt what was going on. He explained to me that I might be using a 301 redirect right now, and that I should be using a 302 redirect instead. I still have to check it out, but I’m sure that he’s correct.

The group that I was with also made some great suggestions to Matt. One of the more important suggestions that we made was to make it easier for websites to change their domain name and not have to worry about losing rankings for the typical three to four months. We also noted to him that we liked how the Google sitemap tool tells us when we have errors on our websites, but it needs to be improved by adding in exactly WHERE the errors have been found.

All in all, I wasn’t too pleased with the first couple days of the conference, but when Matt Cutts and the rest of the panel showed up, I learned more than I bargained for.

Here is a photo of Matt and I at the final session of the Webmaster World conference:

How to Choose Safe, Unique Passwords

It’s a question that everybody wonders about at some point in time, and one that most people can’t figure out. A large majority of us simply use the same password for each and every website that we sign up to, and we all know that this is a critical mistake as it is not very secure.

Think about it, some rogue employee at some random company whos website you sign up for, can take your username and password, then try them at other important websites, including online banking accounts!

You could have a unique password for each and every website that you sign up for, but then you have to keep a list handy at all times because it is nearly impossible to remember them all. This is certainly not easy.

Content Management Software Comparison for MacPokerOnline.com

Introduction

We have concluded that it would be best to implement a content management system into the internet gambling portal www.macpokeronline.com. Currently the business has over 330 pages of content, some of which are using template 1 and some of which are using template 2. The website receives most of its traffic from search engines and gets about 600 unique visitors per day, which is quite a lot for an online gambling website. Macpokeronline.com is considered to be an authority website, with a Google pagerank of 6, which is quite rare.

SEO and Consulting : Are you giving away the farm?

SEO

Many of us SEO’s didn’t get our start in programming. In fact, many of us dont program at all, leaving that to the work of the web development company who’s hired us for their clients project. All fine, all good. Until ofcourse, we start giving away the farm.

Case in point:

My client knows that the essence of SEO (basically) boils down to three things – a search engine friendly site, the right key words, and off page popularity. But as those old meta data methods fall more and more by the way side, how is the ‘SEO challenged’ web development co. client supposed to know how to effectively program a site that I work on?

I, like a good little SEO, want my “client’s client’s” site to perform well, and am therefore highly invested in their ability to “throw down” when they step into the programming ring.

“…But we never discussed consulting on the front end.”

So while I can link pop all day long, write and submit articles, detail out page specific meta data, saturate content and RSS / XML my brains out – at the end of the day, “if the code aint right, the outlook aint bright.”

The truth is, the site will do better if I invest in consulting with the tech master on the good stuff: absolute positioning in css, establishing directory structures, working around question marks and session id’s, properly formatting HTML… ad infinitum.

“…But I didnt spend years feeding cattle to just give away the farm.”

So after a long rant, Ive come to this: “Cost considerations for programming consulting is built into the total cost outlined in this estimate.” Period. Then sure, use this info on your own behalf, every day, for your clients, for the rest of your life — and then maybe you wont hire me again. But the site I worked on is ranking well, and that small business owner is making their buck – because the programmers who “wristed” the job were informed… for a cost, ofcourse.

I’m a Certified SEO Expert

SEO

Today I was doing some regular work over at RentaCoder.com (I’m usually the buyer) and saw somebody looking for a search engine optimization expert. I sent them a message noting my skills along with a bid price for the work that I can do for them. But that’s not why I’m writing this post. I’m writing to tell you about something that I found, a search engine optimization expert test.

This test is administered by a third party IT company, ExpertRating.com, that tests technology skills and determines if the person who is taking them is considered an expert. There is an extremely large field of tests available, and it costs $25 to take each of them. Of course, I decided that it would help me gain some recognition if I could pass, so here I go!

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

At this point of the post, I’m ponying up the $25 and am about to take the exam. Of course, you don’t have to worry about how long the expert search engine optimization test is going to take me, because you can just skip to the next paragraph and find out.
