I wanted to make you aware of a service similar to Stop Forum Spam. It's called "BotScout.com" and they're also useful in screening out spammers and bots that try to register on forums, abuse contact pages, etc.

They have an easy-to-use API similar to SFS and have mods available for most of the popular bulletin boards out there.

Full Disclosure: I'm one of the folks that runs BotScout and would be glad to have you make use of our service too.

Dave,

Yes, you have a very valid point there. But these are questions that we would ALL like to have answered. Another great question is this: How was Matt Cutts able to tell everybody who asked each and every domain name in which that person owned? The simple answer to the question was that they are a registrar, so they automatically know this information. However, some of the folks that asked claimed that they had each several sites registered through different hosts and under different company names, some that were even in different countries.

My point is this, if Google can type one domain in and fetch a whole bunch of other "unassociated" domains in order to find the owner, I think that they are able to do the kind of tracking that we have talked about earlier.

One thing that we may seem to be forgetting about is the fact that Google already tracks the clickthroughs in the Google search engine. Have you looked at any of those links lately? They don't have any special tracking codes on them either. They are simple and direct text links that lead to the website that the user wants to see. Now how is it that Google can track those as well?

I wish I knew all the answers, but if you think about things the way that these guys do, almost anything is possible.
